Library collection

The specialised collection of the Institute of Philosophy Library has a broad thematic and chronological scope (Czech and foreign scholarly publications, critical editions of collected works, reference books, books from estates of leading philosophers, valuable sets of books donated by prestigious universities, continuous series of scientific journals). More than 5,000 volumes of publications are available in the open-access collection of the study room (reference works, newly added books, thematically organized publications according to scientific activies of the Institute's departments, current volumes of subscribed journals).

Collected works

The important part of the library collection are critical editions of collected classical works by philosophers from antiquity to the present day, which the Library preserves and makes available. Their updated overview with direct links to library catalogue entries is on the collected works websites. Detailed analytical overviews of available editions are added to selected works.

Periodicals

The Library has an extensive collection of periodicals with more than 800 subject-relevant titles (print and electronic). Periodicals are available to external readers only on-site as in-house loans. Libraries can get copies of individual articles in terms of the inter-library loan services.

Donations

The library collection is constantly expanding with new donations. Particularly valuable are gifts from personal libraries of Czech and foreign philosophers (the libraries of P.F. Strawson, K. Cramer, K. Kosík, and others). After serious damage to the library collection during the floods in 2002, the library received valuable book donations of almost 10,000 volumes from foreign universities (Regensburg, Oxford, Cambridge, Aberdeen, etc.).
